Judging Criteria

FIVE WINNERS WILL ENTER INTO THE EXPERIMENT

THE EXPERIMENT INCLUDES PROFESSIONAL MENTORSHIP AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THEIR PROJECT GREENLIT AT A $50,000 BUDGET ($25,000 IN PRODUCTION FINANCING AND $25,000 IN KIND POST PRODUCTION AND FINISHING SERVICES)

JUDGING CRITERIA

All Projects will be judged based upon the following criteria:

ORIGINALITY: Is Project based upon an original idea? If not, does the Project have an original take on a popular idea? Is Project predictable? For experimental submissions, particular focus will be placed on Projects that feature experimental filmmaking techniques such as webcam, mobile phone, user generated, sourced footage, etc.

PRESENTATION: If the Project is based on a script, is the script properly formatted by industry standards? Are there misspellings, punctuation and/or grammar issues? If the Project is based on a proof of concept, are the proof concept treatment and visuals presented in a way that are easy to follow?

ETHOS: Does the personal social impact statement align with Wayfarer’s ethos? Does it set forth why the underlying story should be told in this current climate? Does Project have any social impact potential?

CULTURAL RELEVANCE: Is Project culturally relevant to a base audience?

MARKETABILITY: Is Project marketable? Does Project have the ability to attract a wide audience?

STRUCTURE: Does Project have a sound plot structure appropriate for the genre? Does Project’s plot unfold in a way that propels the story forward?

PACING: Is the action properly timed? Does the plot unfold organically?

CHARACTERS: Do the characters have distinctive and layered personalities? Is there an identifiable protagonist and antagonist with identifiable goals?

DIALOGUE: Do the characters have unique voices? Is the dialogue properly used to propel story?

THEME/PURPOSE: Is there an identifiable underlying message of the story that is organically revealed throughout the Project?

STYLE/TONE: Does Project have a distinct style or tone?

COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL: Does Project have the potential to be a commercial success?

FEASIBILITY: Is it practical or feasible for pre-and post production to take place within the required budget limit and in six weeks?

INNOVATION: Is the Project innovative?

PRODUCTION SAFETY: Does the production plan clearly detail a realistic strategy for how the project will be produced safely with social distancing and COVID-19 guidelines in mind and in compliance with applicable law and ordinances?
